On February 5, the members of the RA NA delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Vladimir Vardanyan, Arusyak Julhakyan, Hayk Mamijanyan and Armen Rustamyan met with the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe Michael O’Flaherty, Armenian Parliament press office reports.
Welcoming the guest to the parliament, Vladimir Vardanyan highly appreciated Michael O’Flaherty’s efforts aimed at promoting the protection of human rights within the framework of the Council of Europe.
The interlocutors spoke about the ongoing cooperation between Armenia and the Council of Europe in the field of human rights protection. In particular, attention was paid to the prevention of violence against women, as well as to the issues related to the rights of people displaced from Karabakh. Vladimir Vardanyan noted that the RA Government continues to do its utmost to integrate the displaced people into our society.
The NA deputies drew the guest’s attention to the issue of persons held in Baku, emphasized their speedy repatriation.
The representatives of the NA opposition factions Hayk Mamijanyan and Armen Rustamyan presented the developments in Armenia to the Commissioner, spoke about the issue on the protection of human rights in Armenia, and, in their assessment, referred to the presence of political prisoners in the country, in their opinion. touched upon the presence of political prisoners in the country.
