Reuters. Russia disregarded ongoing U.S. peace efforts by attacking Ukraine's energy sector overnight on Tuesday (February 3), President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said.
Zelenskiy said that Kyiv would reach out to U.S. officials to discuss the consequences for Russia following the attack. During a joint media conference with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Zelenskiy said they discussed rapid air defence supplies and licenses for U.S. weapon production in Europe.
He did not state whether any progress was made in those discussions.
Russia attacked Ukraine with 450 drones and over 60 missiles overnight, Ukraine's foreign minister Andrii Sybiha said on Tuesday, adding that Moscow waited for temperatures to drop before attacking Ukraine's energy system.
Russia and Ukraine said last week they halted strikes on each other's energy infrastructure, but disagreed on the timeframe for the truce.
