The EU mission was deployed in the Republic of Armenia to monitor the situation and stability along the Armenia–Azerbaijan border. When the relevant decision was taken by EU partners and member states, we truly needed an objective monitoring mission along the border, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, stated during a session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), as he addressed the activities of the EU mission in Armenia.
Mirzoyan noted that the PACE session also provided him with another opportunity to express gratitude to those who had taken that decision.
“Indeed, this mission played a significant role and contributed to real stability along the Armenia–Azerbaijan border.
At the same time, we understand that time has passed, and now we have peace, and we need to think about how this mission can continue to provide support—perhaps by developing our internal, possibly border-management capacities,” he said.
