At the January 19 session of the National Assembly, Civil Contract faction MP Sergey Bagratyan, addressing Armenia–Georgia relations, expressed the view that obstacles between the two countries should be overcome more rapidly and dynamically in the interest of both economies. He then asked the Chair of the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations, Sargis Khandanyan, whether there are influences from third countries on Armenia–Georgia relations, particularly with regard to transit cargo issues.
“I agree that the nature of Armenia–Georgia relations is such that there cannot be any obstacles, especially from third countries. I cannot point to any such interference in the context of Armenia–Georgia relations. In any case, the dialogue between Armenia and Georgia is so frank that even if there were such interference, we would not be constrained and would address it,” Khandanyan said.
The Chair of the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations also touched upon the Armenia–Georgia strategic partnership and the overall prospects of bilateral relations: “New horizons are also opening for our bilateral relations, taking into account the context of unblocking and the opportunities that Armenia’s unblocking will provide, the results of which we are already seeing, including how we receive and import goods via the Georgian railway.”
