Clashes broke out in Aleppo at midday on January 6 between the Syrian army and the Kurdish internal security units of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). This was reported from Aleppo by Lurer correspondent Zarmik Poghikyan.
Armenian-populated districts are located in areas adjacent to the clashes and have also fallen within a dangerous zone. According to official sources, by the evening hours at least four people had been killed and 15 wounded, including children. The clashes intensified in the evening.
The National Prelacy canceled the Requiem Mass scheduled for January 7, following the Feast of the Nativity, and called on the population not to leave their homes and to take shelter in the inner rooms of their apartments.
Aleppo Governor Azzam Gharib announced that due to the deterioration of the security situation, January 7 has been declared a non-working day for all schools, universities, and state institutions, with the exception of hospitals and emergency services. The clashes are taking place in the Sheikh Maqsoud, Ashrafiyeh, and Siryan districts of Aleppo. As of this moment, only material damage has been reported in the nearby Armenian-populated districts.
According to the Lurer correspondent, Aleppo International Airport will suspend the acceptance of all flights for 24 hours on January 7.
