Donald Trump has threatened military action against Colombia and claimed Cuba is “ready to fall” in the wake of Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro's capture, while angering a key Nato ally with his comments aiming for control over Greenland,
Sky News reports.
President Maduro was kidnapped by US special forces on Saturday in a major operation that involved multiple strikes on the South American country.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Monday, President Trump indicated the US was prepared to launch similar operations against other South American leaders - singling out Colombia’s President as a likely target.
“Colombia is very sick, too, run by a sick man who likes making cocaine and selling it to the United States. And he's not going to be doing it very long, let me tell you,” Trump said.
“He's not doing it very long. He has cocaine mills and cocaine factories. He's not going to be doing it.”
Asked whether this meant a similar operation could be launched against Colombia, the US President responded by saying “it sounds good to me”.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio had earlier mentioned Cuba as a country that needed to take note of the Venezuelan operation, but when asked whether this meant Cuba could also be attacked, President Trump indicated he did not think this would be necessary.
“Cuba is ready to fall. Cuba looks like it's ready to fall… They got all of their income from Venezuela, from the Venezuelan oil. They're not getting any of it (anymore),” he said.
“They survive because of Venezuela. Now they won’t have that money coming in. They won't have the income coming in.
“Cuba, literally, is ready to fall. And you have a lot of great Cuban Americans that are going to be very happy about this.”
