The White House will issue a statement on Venezuela after US military aircraft leave the country’s airspace, The Wall Street Journal reports. It is noted that explosions in Caracas have ceased, but US military aircraft are still present in Venezuelan airspace.
Bloomberg reports that explosions were heard in the area of a complex in Caracas where Hugo Chávez’s mausoleum is located. Cuba’s leadership has also reported that the United States struck the building of Venezuela’s Parliament. It is further reported that the home of Venezuela’s Defense Minister was also hit.
National Guard forces have been deployed to the streets of Caracas. They are conducting searches at the addresses of potential collaborators and attempting to prevent possible protest actions. According to local media, Caracas International Airport is already under the control of US military forces.
Against the backdrop of developments in Venezuela, Turkey has expressed support for Caracas. Turkish President’s Chief Adviser Cemil Ertem stated: “We stand with the people of Venezuela and President Maduro. This banditry must not go unpunished.”
