Russia is considering the possibility of expanding the range of its goods being delivered to Armenia via Azerbaijan, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk announced on the air of Russia 24 television.
In addition to grain, fertilizer supplies are being discussed, as well as the carrying out of return cargo transportation from Armenia to Russia.
“An important event has taken place, we consider this to be truly significant: the first train loaded with Russian grain has passed through the territory of Azerbaijan and Georgia to Armenia. That is, for the first time in more than 30 years and for the first time during the independent existence of Armenia and Azerbaijan, the first train loaded with grain has passed,” Overchuk said.
As the Russian deputy premier clarified, the possibility of using this transport corridor for the transportation of other types of cargo, including mineral fertilizers, is currently being developed.
In addition, Overchuk recalled that a train loaded with oil products was recently sent from Azerbaijan to Armenia. In parallel, Moscow and Yerevan are discussing the prospect of carrying out transit transportation in the opposite direction, from Armenia to Russia, via the territory of Azerbaijan.
According to the Russian deputy PM, such plans seemed unlikely until recently, but now they are beginning to take on practical content.
