During a concluding press briefing in Washington, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio once again stated that the Russian-Ukrainian conflict can only be resolved through diplomatic means. According to Rubio, a diplomatic settlement implies compromises, and the task of the United States is to understand what Russia and Ukraine could lose and what they expect to gain. At the same time, the decisions will be made by Moscow and Kyiv, while Washington acts as a mediator, the head of the State Department noted.
“I think we have made progress, but there is still a lot of work to be done. It is obvious that the most complex issues are always resolved last,” Rubio emphasized.
According to the Secretary of State, the President of the United States considers peacemaking a priority.
“You have seen our involvement in resolving issues such as the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, India and Pakistan, Thailand and Cambodia, the tragedy in Sudan or the conflict in South Sudan, as well as the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. We are always looking for opportunities to act as a mediator where it is possible to prevent war or put an end to conflicts,” Rubio said.
