Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said there is no contradiction in Armenia’s efforts to deepen ties simultaneously with both the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the European Union.
“Armenia and Azerbaijan have shown interest in the prospect of becoming full members of the SCO. At the last ministerial-format meeting, the position of the organization’s member states was that the process is beginning, and a decision will be made in the next phase,” Mirzoyan said at the Orbeli Forum 2025.
The minister added that Armenia is interested in various formats of cooperation envisaged by such partnerships.
“There is still a long way to go with the EU; many cooperation programs are underway, and numerous documents are under discussion. This also reflects the citizens’ perspective: a civic initiative was brought to the National Assembly, and now we have a law that makes Armenia’s EU membership an imperative policy for the government,” the minister said, referring to the EU bill.
