The establishment of peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan is a turning point, Armenia's Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said.
"I can say without hesitation that what happened on August 8 was a turning point, without in any way underestimating the work and negotiations carried out in this direction beforehand. All of that led to August 8, and what happened that day in Washington was a turning point and a cornerstone for the subsequent work," he said at a parliamentary committee hearing on the 2026 budget bill.
Armenia and Azerbaijan signed a U.S.-brokered declaration and initialed the peace agreement on August 8.
Mirzoyan highlighted that the document also enshrines the principles of non-interference in each other’s internal affairs, respect for the inviolability of borders, and regional cooperation.
“I consider the public release of this text very important, also because it reminds us of the manipulations that were spread about this agreement—claims of constitutional changes, mass relocations, and so on. Thank God, the document is public and accessible, and we can see that none of those manipulations are in it, not even remotely,” the foreign minister said.
