Bulgaria is ready to allow Russian President Vladimir Putin’s plane to fly through the country’s airspace for a possible meeting with Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Budapest.
This became clear from the words of Bulgarian Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev in response to a question from the Bulgarian National Television. Georgiev took part in a meeting of the foreign ministers of the European Union countries in Luxembourg. The minister clarified that a meeting between Putin, Trump and Zelenskyy has not yet been scheduled, but when efforts are being made for peace, it is logical for these efforts to be supported.
Minister Georgiev said that the meeting between the presidents of Russia, the United States and Ukraine must first be scheduled, and then the details will be discussed. But if the condition for achieving peace is for such a meeting to take place, then it is logical for it to be supported. According to him, the meeting cannot be held if one of the participants cannot reach it. Bulgaria and the EU look with hope to the holding of such a meeting, because the future of Ukraine should not be decided without Ukraine itself. According to him, Bulgaria will continue to support the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.
Bulgaria is one of the possible routes through which the Russian plane could pass. In this case, it could leave Russian territory toward the Black Sea, then pass over Bulgaria and Serbia, and thus reach Hungary. However, this is only one of the possible routes for the delegation’s passage.
At the meeting of the foreign ministers, it also became clear that Bulgaria will support the 19th package of sanctions against Russia. The foreign minister emphasized that Zelenskyy should also participate in the meeting in Budapest.
