“There has never been, and there is not now, any such issue on our discussions as part of a mutually agreed agenda. The question of amending Armenia’s Constitution or adopting a new one is exclusively a matter of our domestic agenda and the sovereign decision of our people”, said Ararat Mirzoyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, addressing Azerbaijan’s precondition to amend the Armenian Constitution in the context of the peace treaty.
“Armenia has never undertaken and will never undertake any obligation before a third party to change its Constitution. This is solely up to our citizens and is part of our internal political and public agenda,” he stated.
The minister also clarified that Azerbaijan continues to link this issue to the signing of the treaty and treat it as a precondition, but the Armenian side does not accept such linkage or preconditions.
