For more than three decades, the Commonwealth of Independent States has proven itself as a reputable integration union, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting of the CIS Heads of State Council in Dushanbe. According to him, the most important thing is that it has managed to maintain a platform not only for communication, but also to create a common market, a common humanitarian space.
Putin emphasized that economic cooperation between the CIS countries continues to strengthen, the trade structure is consistently improving. According to the Russian President, the CIS countries are building a stable financial infrastructure that is independent of external influence.
The Kremlin leader also noted that the CIS countries also coordinate foreign policy work, clarify their positions. In this regard, he considered the joint statement approved by the Council on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the UN to be relevant.
“We support the deepening of contacts between the Commonwealth and the SCO. This is what the draft resolution on granting the SCO observer status in the CIS is aimed at. It would be truly useful to fully utilize the potential of the two organizations' cooperation to ensure the secure and sustainable development of our countries and the entire Eurasian region," the Russian President said.
