Within the framework of the previous partnership cooperation document, Armenia-NATO relations followed highly structured procedures, which have been implemented both in the army reform program and in the transfer and resolution of democratic issues within the military. Many programs have been carried out over the years, and these programs continue, said Andranik Kocharyan, head of the Armenian delegation to the NATO PA, during a press briefing organized as part of the Rose-Roth Seminar held in Armenia, in response to a question about whether NATO is ready to support reforms in the Armed Forces of Armenia.
“These programs have been very useful for Armenia’s security system because, when we talk about military transparency, without implementing these programs, it would have been difficult to resolve issues independently, our own ideas alone would not have been sufficient. The acquisition and localization of experience have allowed us to implement many real reforms in the army.
Another point is that these reforms are not yet at a level that fully satisfies us. However, I can confirm that military transparency corresponds to the security environment more than ever before, not only as head of the NATO PA delegation but also as someone who has led the Standing Committee on Defense and Security for seven years,” he said.
