Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday told journalists in Washington that he is ready to hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin without preconditions, DPA reports.
After a summit with US President Donald Trump and European leaders, Zelensky said that Moscow's previous demand for a ceasefire had only triggered new conditions.
"We are ready for any type of format," Zelensky said, specifying this would have to be on a leaders level.
Zelensky said that "come what may" he should meet Putin and at that point start working out how to end the conflict, stressing that preconditions for talks from Kiev would be met by "one hundred demands" from Russia.
At the same time, he acknowledged that the demand for a ceasefire as a prerequisite for peace negotiations had been justified.
Zelensky later added on social media platform X that Trump "supported a meeting at the level of leaders. Such a meeting is necessary to resolve sensitive issues."
