The documents signed in the US will practically open up new opportunities for railway cooperation between Armenia and Iran, including through the Nakhichevan-Julfa railway line, which will mean Iran's railway access to Armenia and ultimately to the Black Sea. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced this after his meeting with visiting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, on Tuesday in Yerevan.
According to Pashinyan, the aforesaid is fully consistent with Armenia's Crossroads of Peace project. He informed that he presented the Iranian president with details of the joint declaration signed on August 8 in Washington, as well as the initialed agreement on the establishment of peace and interstate relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
As per the Armenian PM, this process is aimed at opening up great prospects for the economic development of the entire region.
"I am happy and grateful to the Iranian president for his objective assessment of these agreements. One of our key agreements with Azerbaijan concerns the opening of communications in the region, with full mutual respect for the sovereignty, jurisdiction, and territorial integrity of countries," Pashinyan noted.
Also, he expressed a conviction that the unblocking of regional communications shall contribute to the development of dialogue between Armenia's partners.
