The Azerbaijani Press Council responded to the application of the Union of Journalists of Russia on Sputinik Azerbaijan to international partners.
The reaction of the Azerbaijani side states that "Sputinik Azerbaijan" staff, despite the claims in the open letter, have nothing to do with the performance of their professional responsibilities in the field of journalism.
"It should be noted that these people cooperated with the Russian FSB and were found in Azerbaijan to do so that unrelated to journalistic activities. In this regard, their arrest is a legal measure that has been taken to the current legislation within the framework of the legal field, "said the Azerbaijani Press Council.
Earlier, the Union of Journalists of Russia had applied to its colleagues, urging them to interfere in the current situation and contributed to the immediate release of Russian citizens. It was noted that the actions of the Azerbaijani authorities, including the unreasonable accusations against journalists, are a gross violations of Azerbaijan's international obligations on the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamentals in the European Convention.
