Armenia’s law enforcement system prevented a dangerous plot targeting the country’s statehood, national security and stability, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at the Cabinet meeting on Thursday, a day after authorities said they uncovered a coup plot.
Pashinyan lauded the joint actions of the National Security Service, the Investigative Committee, Police, prosecutors and ministry of interior staffers. He proposed to bestow state awards upon the finest officers. “It is important to note that a crime being prepared against our statehood, Armenia’s security and stability has been uncovered.
The implementation of that plot has been prevented. I express gratitude to all representatives of our law enforcement system,” Pashinyan said.He said he has discussed the issue with President Vahagn Khachaturyan.
Pashinyan also addressed social media discussions drawing comparisons between the thwarted plot and the 1999 October 27 terror attack.
“Some are saying that another October 27 has been prevented in Armenia, while others are asking whether the law enforcement system of 1999 could have prevented the October 27 terror attack. I believe this is a question that must be answered reliably. I hope our law enforcement system will make efforts toward finding that answer,” Pashinyan said.
