The Yemen-based Houthis claimed on Saturday (December 21) that they successfully struck a military target in Tel Aviv with a hypersonic ballistic missile, marking another long-range attack attempt against Israel, Reuters reports.
In a televised statement, Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sarea said the group's missile forces targeted an Israeli military installation in the Tel Aviv area using what he described as a "Palestine-2" hypersonic ballistic missile.
"The missile hit its target with precision and the defensive and interceptor systems failed to counter it," Sarea said in his statement.
The Israeli military said it failed to intercept a missile from Yemen early on Saturday that fell in the Tel Aviv-Jaffa area, and the ambulance service said 14 people received mild injuries.
The Houthis have repeatedly fired drones and missiles towards Israel in what they describe as acts of solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.
On Thursday (December 19), Israel launched strikes against ports and energy infrastructure in Houthi-held parts of Yemen and threatened more attacks against the Yemeni group.
