Washington believes that the conversation between Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov cannot offend Kyiv, they talked about issues of interest to Washington, stated Ned Price, head of the press service of the State Department, RIA Novosti reports.
Journalists were interested in whether Blinken really asked for a meeting, why he decided to make such a contact now, and whether this means any change in Washington's approach to the situation and relations with Moscow.
‘There were no negotiations, it was a short meeting, and it should not be given much importance,” said Price.
The conversation between Antony Blinken and Sergey Lavrov took place in India, within the framework of the G20 foreign ministers' conference. The head of the State Department raised the issues of suspending Russia's participation in the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, ending the conflict in Ukraine, and exchanging prisoners. The conversation lasted about eight minutes, according to the State Department.
