The command of the Syrian armed forces has sent special forces to Deir Zor province to destroy the terrorist groups of the Islamic State operating there, the Syrian Al-Watan newspaper reports.
The operation is being carried out in the Badia al-Sharqiya desert, from where the militants attack army checkpoints and convoys moving along the highway to the border with Iraq.
Eyewitnesses told the newspaper that the terrorists have recently significantly intensified their attacks and are retaliating against the local residents.
According to Al Watan, the sheikhs of the Arab tribes appealed to the authorities to end terrorist attacks in the east of Syria.
