The observation mission of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) has arrived in Armenia at the official invitation of the Armenian authorities to carry out an observation mission during the snap parliamentary elections.
“Observers will look at the legal framework, its implementation, campaigning, the work of electoral and relevant state bodies, as well as the registration of the electorate, registration issues and settlement of electoral disputes. Media monitoring will be an integral part of this monitoring work, too” says Owen Murphy, Head of OSCE/ODIHR Observation Mission.
The observers are in Armenia with a team of 11 experts specializing in various components of the electoral process. If the coronavirus situation allows, the mission will be expanded by the election day.
“Next week we expect the visit of 24 long-term election experts to Armenia, who will be stationed in different parts of the country. At the same time, we have asked the OSCE member states to send 250 short-term experts, who will arrive in June and work in Armenia for 46 days,” Owen Murphy says.
OSCE/ODIHR observers will release the preliminary observations of the snap parliamentary elections the day after the vote, and a summary report of the entire process will be presented approximately two months after the end of the election.
