Acting Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan states that there are first signs that the world is at the stage of overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic, the Acting Prime Minister said during a meeting held at the Ministry of Health. “These signs, of course, are primarily related to the volume of vaccine production. In fact, in Armenia, at least last week, we can happily admit that there has been a certain decrease in daily new cases,” Pashinyan said.
The Acting Prime Minister thanked all medical workers, healthcare workers, expressing the opinion that Armenia face the pandemic with honor from the very first days. “But today, step by step, we must change the content of our tasks, our goal should be a large-scale vaccination. I want to emphasize that, first of all, there is a component of health care, I also want to highlight the economic and civilizational component. We can admit that there is little activeness in the tourism sector.
Let me emphasize: there is every reason to believe that vaccination against COVID-19 will become a prerequisite for travel in the near future. In Armenia, we have already prepared an electronic platform for the, so-called, green passports, so that the phones of our citizens have information confirming their vaccination, which will allow them to travel even during restrictions,” Nikol Pashinyan said.
He added that, on the other hand, it is very important to ensure a normal, growing flow of people coming to Armenia. “It seems to me that now all countries of the world are evaluated by what percentage of the population has been vaccinated. Countries with a high level of vaccination are considered a desirable destination for tourism,” Pashinyan said.
He stated that, as with other vaccines, there is a lot of speculation and discussion about COVID-19 vaccines. Pashinyan expressed the opinion that it is necessary to make every effort for widespread vaccination in Armenia.
Pashinyan said that currently the number of citizens vaccinated against COVID-19 is just over 5,000: “I want us to admit that this is not a sufficient figure at all, we must at least double our daily pace. We have to do it very fast.”
