On May 03, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Ara Aivazian met with the Chairman of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations of the Iraqi Council of Representatives Sherko Muhammad Saleh Merwaes and his delegation, which also included the Head of the Iraq-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group Rehan Hanna Ayoub.
Welcoming the guests, Aivazian expressed confidence that the visit of a representative delegation like the parliamentarians will open a new page in the Armenian-Iraqi relations intertwined with the traditions of centuries-old friendship.
The interlocutors talked about a number of issues on the Armenian-Iraqi bilateral agenda, emphasizing the importance of cooperation at the parliamentary level in strengthening cooperation in the spheres of mutual interest. In this context, the role of the Iraqi-Armenian community as a strong link in the development of interstate friendship was highly appreciated.
They exchanged views on the steps taken to protect the rights of national and religious minorities in the Middle East.
