The RA President Armen Sargsyan met with a group of members of the Professional Committee on Constitutional Reforms. The RA Minister of Justice Rustam Badasyan, Chairman of the Commission, Representative of the Republic of Armenia in the European Court of Human Rights Yeghishe Kirakosyan, lawyers-scientists Anahit Manasyan and Armen Mazmanyan, the Chairman of the Armenian Bar Association Karen Zadoyan and the head of the "Union of Informed Citizens" NGO Daniel Ioannisyan took part in the meeting.
The RA President emphasizing once again the need for constitutional changes, welcomed the establishment of such a professional commission by the Prime Minister. "You, as a commission, will deal with one of the most important issues for our country, the reform of law number one", said President Sargsyan, noting that the President's Office and the Presidential Institute will take this process very seriously.
The participants particularly spoke about the work of the commission, the process of elaboration of the document, presented their observations.
In his speech the President said: "If we are going to make constitutional changes, we must take into account that the reformed, developed Constitution must live and work in Armenia in the 21st century".
As for the "presidential or parliamentary system" discussions, according to the President, in principle both can be very good or very bad. "To discuss today - presidential or parliamentary ... this is a discussion of deviation from the path. If we have a parliamentary system of government today it is very important to discuss how to make that system one of the best by our Constitution", said Sargsyan.
