During Republican Party council session tonight, RA President Serzh Sargsyan issued a statement. Particularly the president stressed about the upcoming changes in almost all the spheres of the governance, starting from President’s Office to the judicial system, Republican Party press service reports. The President stated, that the constitutional reform conducted in 2015 was seen as a regular political event based on the current political situation in the country, as well as a necessity to solve certain personal problems, rather than the imperative of major issues the country was forced to face.
“Indeed, the situation would have remained the same, in case we limited with an analogy of reforms, in case we lacked serious intentions to fight for the fundamental ideas foreseen by our constitution. On February 12, this year, I touched upon the issue of realization of constitutional reforms, as well as upon the vision of development of our country. Previous economic reforms have been the center of attention, while political reforms had somehow been viewed as secondary, giving preference to economy, considering economic reforms would prepare favorable grounds for political ones. However, it appeared that without political reforms, economic reforms will never satisfy us. Everybody sees the necessity of political reforms today. First more, political reforms stipulate a political culture, new ways to solve the issues the country is facing, and an opportunity to unite all the existing ideas of all the forces, regardless of their political orientation, directed to solve the issues the country faces. I am sure, each of you present here gives the priority to the solution of the existing issues, rather than the position you hold.
We have proved that we are equipped with the necessary potential to withstand all the issues we have historically been facing. We should not be limited with this potential, but rather seek for people, regardless of their current location, to handle these responsible and hard duty," the president said.
