Secretary of State John Kerry Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlut Cavusoglu discussed the Armenian issue in Washington. Marie Harf, the Spokesperson of State Department, announced that John Kerry confirmed his support for normalizing the Armenian-Turkish relations.
White House spokesperson Eric Schultz announced that Washington is going to take the advantage of the centennial to draw attention to the events of 1915 and to urge to recognize the facts fully, honestly and justly.
According to him, recognition meets the interests of all the parties, having in mind Turkey, Armenia, and the USA. The journalists wondered why the US President Barack Obama does not utter the word ‘genocide’, while he willingly did so in 2008 during his presidential campaign.
Schultz mentioned, “The President and other high ranking officials of the Administration have continuously acknowledged the historical fact that 1.5 million Armenians were killed during the last days of the Ottoman Empire.” According to TASS, the representative of the White House urged Turkey once more to regulate relations with Armenia.
