Reuters. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on Monday (September 14) said Ukraine would support a U.S. proposal for a mutual halt to strikes on critical infrastructure as a first step toward de-escalation if Russia demonstrated a “genuine willingness” towards ending the war.
In his evening address, he added that energy facilities, food supply routes and other critical infrastructure should be included in any agreement to halt attacks.
His comments come after U.S. President Donald Trump called on Ukraine to halt strikes on Russia's diesel-producing facilities, while adding that the upheaval in global energy markets was mainly due to the conflict in the Gulf region.
Trump on Sunday called on Zelenskiy to stop targeting Russian diesel infrastructure, saying the attacks were causing a shortage of the fuel that is "hurting the world."
