During Sunday’s National Assembly (parliament) elections in Armenia, the observation mission of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) did not record any electoral violations that could have affected the voting results. Head of the CIS observation mission, Deputy Secretary General of the CIS Nurlan Seitimov, announced this at a press conference Monday.
According to him, the individual shortcomings observed were of a technical nature and were immediately eliminated.
“No violations affecting the election results were recorded,” Seitimov noted, adding that the National Assembly elections were held in accordance with Armenia’s constitution and electoral code, and were open and competitive.
On election day, CIS observers visited more than 750 polling stations in Armenia’s capital Yerevan and nine provinces. Nurlan Seitimov noted that all measures had been taken to prepare and conduct the elections at a high level.
And regarding the election campaign period, he noted that the nomination and registration were conducted in accordance with the requirements of Armenia’s electoral code, and the campaign ensured competition and political pluralism. As per Seitimov, parties and MP candidates were given equal campaigning opportunities, and the media covered their programs in detail.
