On June 1, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Armen Ghazaryan received Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania Gintaras Aliksandravičius. This was reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The parties highly appreciated the effective cooperation established between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Lithuania, emphasizing the significance of the joint work carried out in recent years. In this context, special reference was also made to the Joint Declaration on Strategic Partnership between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Lithuania signed on May 19 of this year, which creates a stronger foundation for the further deepening of cooperation between the two countries, including in the field of internal affairs.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the activities planned within the framework of a new program to be launched on June 1, 2026, with funding from the European Union and in partnership with the Republic of Lithuania. It was noted that the program will play an important role in supporting the visa liberalization dialogue between Armenia and the European Union in the areas of border management, document security, and law enforcement reforms.
Referring to the program’s priorities, Deputy Minister Armen Ghazaryan particularly highlighted the educational component in the context of the development of the border management sector. According to him, alongside the training and retraining programs for police officers and rescuers at the Educational Complex of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, it is also planned to establish a new direction for the professional education of border guards, based on leading international experience and modern educational methods. In Armen Ghazaryan’s assessment, this is one of Armenia’s important steps toward the establishment of an integrated border management system that is aligned with European and international best practices.
In the field of document security, initiatives aimed at developing legal and informational capacities were discussed, while in the context of law enforcement reforms, particular attention was paid to strengthening the capacities of the criminal police through possible areas of technical and methodological support.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their commitment to the continuous development of cooperation, emphasizing the importance of experience exchange and institutional capacity building within the framework of joint programs. The Lithuanian side also reaffirmed its readiness to ensure active involvement in current and future initiatives with Armenia.
