May 9 is one of the most important days in our history and collective memory, symbolizing the ideas of victory, remembrance and peace. This is stated in the message of the President of the Republic of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan.
“On this day, we pay tribute to all those who, during the years of the Second World War, selflessly fought for the liberation of humanity from fascism. Their courage and resilience became the foundation of a victory that changed the course of history.
The Armenian people took part in that struggle with dignity. Tens of thousands of Armenians fought on different fronts, suffered heavy losses, yet continued the struggle with unwavering will for a peaceful and secure world. The feats of Armenian soldiers and commanders are an important page in the history of global victory.
May 9 is also an opportunity to re-evaluate the value of peace. Today, the world still faces numerous challenges, and more than ever it is necessary to preserve solidarity among peoples, mutual respect, and the principles of peaceful coexistence.
It is our duty to value the lessons of the past and to contribute every day to the creation of a peaceful, secure and dignified future.
We bow in respect and express gratitude to all veterans and to the memory of the victims of the war.
May peace and prosperity always accompany our people and our homeland.
Happy Victory and Peace Day,” the President’s message states.
