U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday (April 12) the ceasefire with Iran was "holding well" and the U.S. Navy would start blockading the Strait of Hormuz, Reuters reports.
His comments came after marathon talks with Iran failed to reach a deal, jeopardizing a fragile two-week ceasefire.
Speaking to media after disembarking Air Force One, Trump said "very good things" were happening in regard to the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump said the blockade would take effect at 10 a.m. local time (1400 GMT) on Monday (April 13).
The U.S. military said it will begin a blockade of all maritime traffic entering and exiting Iranian ports and coastal areas on Monday.
While shipping data showed three supertankers fully laden with oil passed through the Strait on Saturday (April 11), tankers were steering clear of the waterway on Monday, ahead of the U.S. blockade.
