Reuters. The U.N. Security Council on Wednesday adopted a resolution condemning Iran’s attacks on Gulf states, with 13 members voting in favor and Russia and China abstaining.
The resolution was co-sponsored by Bahrain with support from 135 countries.
After the vote, Bahrain’s U.N. ambassador, Jamal Fares Alrowaiei, said the outcome showed broad international backing for countries in the region that had come under attack over the previous 12 days.
He said the resolution sent a clear signal that missile and drone strikes attributed to Iran against Bahrain, other Gulf Cooperation Council countries and Jordan were unacceptable and violated the U.N. Charter, international law and principles of good neighborliness.
Alrowaiei said recent attacks had hit civilian facilities, infrastructure and residential areas, causing deaths and injuries, and said the council’s action underscored the importance of regional stability to international peace and security.
