The delegation of the RA National Assembly was in Brussels (Kingdom of Belgium) on February 24-25.
The visit was organized within the framework of the European Parliament’s Democracy Support and Election Coordination Group programme. The goal was to promote inter-parliamentary dialogue and cooperation between factions, as well as to familiarize the representatives of the RA National Assembly with the activities, procedures, and democracy support toolkit of the European Parliament.
In the delegation of the RA National Assembly were representatives from the RA NA all political factions: The Head of the RA NA Civil Contract Faction Hayk Konjoryan, the Chair of the NA Standing Committee on European Integration Arman Yeghoyan, the Deputy Chair of the NA Standing Committee on Economic Affairs Babken Tunyan, the deputies of the Civil Contract Faction Lilit Minasyan, Alkhas Ghazaryan, the Secretary of the Armenia Faction Artsvik Minasyan, the members of the Faction Anna Grigoryan, Artur Khachatryan, the Head of With Honor Faction Hayk Mamijanyan, as well as representatives of the RA NA Staff.
As the Member of the European Parliament, Armenia’s Coordinator of the Democracy Support and Election Coordination Group programme Nacho Sánchez Amor assessed, the study visit is an important opportunity for the deputies of the RA National Assembly to get acquainted with the European parliamentary culture on spot, exchange experiences, and deepen their professional skills in the field of parliamentary activity.
During the discussions, the role of the European Parliament in foreign relations and democracy support processes, the European Parliament’s rules of procedure and the code of conduct for members were presented, as well as the Armenia-European Union cooperation agenda, including the visa liberalisation process, was discussed.
The Armenian MPs noted that the visit is another step towards the development of Armenia-European Union inter-parliamentary cooperation and an important contribution to the process of strengthening democratic institutions.
Within the framework of the visit, the parliamentary delegation met with a number of Members of the European Parliament and representatives of the administrative leadership, as well as, the Standing Rapporteur on Armenia in the European Parliament Miriam Lexmann, the Co-Rapporteur Geadis Geadi, Members of the European Parliament Marina Kaljurand, Andrey Kovatchev, Helmut Brandstätter, Andreas Schieder, Nicolae Ştefănuță, Monica Hollmeyer, Juan Fernando López Aguilar, the Co-Chair of the EU-Armenia Parliamentary Partnership Committee Nils Ušakovs, and the Director-General for the Directorate-General for External Policies of the Union (DG EXPO) of the European Parliament Pietro Ducci.
