Reuters. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen arrived in Kyiv on Tuesday (February 24) for the war's fourth anniversary. On her arrival at Kyiv train station, Leyen was welcomed by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha.
In a post on her social media page, von der Leyen said the trip was "to underscore our enduring commitment to Ukraine's just fight," adding a message to Ukrainians and to Russia: "We will not relent until peace is restored."
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy is due to welcome von der Leyen and other dignitaries from European allies for events commemorating the start of the war.
Hundreds of thousands of soldiers on both sides have died or been wounded in Europe's deadliest conflict since World War Two. Russian forces have killed tens of thousands of Ukrainian civilians and destroyed Ukrainian cities with years of missiles and drone strikes.
Ongoing peace talks with Russia, brokered by the United States, appear to have stalled over the question of territory.
