The younger brother of King Charles III, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, has been released from police custody after almost 12 hours of questioning, The Guardian reports.
Andrew was seen in the back seat of a car leaving a police station in Norfolk, England.
Police said Andrew had been released pending further enquiries, meaning the investigation into him is ongoing.
Andrew was arrested Thursday morning on suspicion of misconduct in public office. The arrest came on his 66th birthday. King Charles has supported the investigation into his brother.
Andrew was friends with Jeffrey Epstein, who was accused of human trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation. One of Epstein's victims, American Virginia Giuffre, said that he had provided her with influential acquaintances, including Andrew. Giuffre claimed that she had sex with Andrew three times in 2001, when she was 17 years old. Giuffre committed suicide in April 2025.
The last time a member of the British royal family was arrested was more than 350 years ago, in 1647, when King Charles I was captured during the Civil War, convicted of treason, and executed.
