U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated on Monday at a joint press conference in Budapest with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán that Washington does not intend to force any party to the Ukrainian crisis to accept a future settlement agreement.
“We are only trying to facilitate reaching an agreement. We are not imposing an agreement on anyone, nor are we forcing anyone to accept it if they do not want to. We simply want to help,” the U.S. Secretary of State said.
According to Rubio, the United States was the only country able to bring Russia and Ukraine back to the negotiating table. He pledged to continue efforts toward resolving the crisis but acknowledged the possibility of a U.S. failure in that direction. Rubio also criticized forces that oppose Washington’s peace initiatives regarding Ukraine.
