Europe’s absence from the negotiating table with Russia is a major mistake and Kyiv is doing everything possible to involve the EU in the process, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during a speech at the Munich Security Conference on Feb. 14.
“Americans often return to the question of concessions,” the president stated.
“And too often these concessions are discussed only in the context of Ukraine, not Russia. Europe is practically not present at the table. This is a big mistake, in my opinion.”
Zelenskyy noted that during the talks the Russians often mention “some kind of Anchorage spirit,” adding that “we can only guess what they really mean.”
Kyiv is trying to involve Europe in the negotiations as much as possible so that its interests are also taken into account.
“Ukraine will do everything — really everything — to make these negotiations successful,” the Ukrainian leader added.
“We have invested in this process, and we are in constant contact with Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner and everyone appointed by President Trump.”
On Feb. 13, presidential adviser Dmytro Lytvyn confirmed to journalists that the next round of trilateral talks between Ukraine, Russia, and the United States will take place on Feb. 17-18 in Geneva, Switzerland.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the Russian delegation will be headed by Vladimir Putin’s aide Vladimir Medinsky.
The Munich Security Conference is currently underway in Munich and runs on Feb. 13-15. Zelenskyy has already arrived in Germany to participate in the summit.
