Both the Government, political circles, and the people of Armenia are genuinely making every possible effort to ensure that the peace established between Armenia and Azerbaijan is lasting, and that the peace achieved through the agreement will help lead not only the two countries but the entire region into an era of cooperation and prosperity, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, stated while responding to questions during a session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).
“At the same time, we recognize that this extremely complex issue has many dimensions. One of them is the humanitarian dimension—yes, the fate of the missing persons and the release from captivity of the 19 individuals held in Azerbaijan. These are issues that must be addressed by both the Government of the Republic of Armenia and civil society. We continue our efforts, negotiations, and discussions, first and foremost with our Azerbaijani counterparts, but also with our international partners, because your support and contribution on this matter are very important, of vital and decisive significance, and are highly appreciated,” the Minister said.
Mirzoyan also spoke about peace procedures, noting that the Prime Minister of Armenia has stated that Armenia’s borders are open for transit, and that numerous visits have taken place between representatives of Armenian and Azerbaijani civil societies.
In the process of establishing peace and normalizing relations with Azerbaijan, the Foreign Minister also emphasized the importance of the border delimitation process, calling it a cornerstone. He also referred to the agreement reached between the countries in Washington on August 8 within the framework of TRIPP, which is likewise aimed at strengthening regional peace.
