The winter session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) opened in Strasbourg on January 26 and will run until January 30. Among the key events of the plenary session are addresses by Moldovan President Maia Sandu and Armenia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Ararat Mirzoyan.
Four urgent issues will be discussed: “Threats to the international order: the Greenland case,” “Ensuring accountability, humanitarian protection, and respect for international law in Gaza and the West Bank following a ceasefire,” “The 65th anniversary of the European Social Charter,” and “The return of democracy to our Assembly: an urgent call to reform the procedure for electing the President of the Parliamentary Assembly.”
Discussions are also planned on ensuring a comprehensive, just, and sustainable peace for Ukraine, the security of the European continent, and a number of other issues.
The Assembly will also hold a farewell ceremony for the outgoing President and elect a new President.
At the end, parliamentarians will discuss strengthening democracy among young people, socialization in schools, as well as inclusive and participatory education. The final agenda of the Assembly will be adopted on the first day of the session.
