Reuters. European Union's foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said on Tuesday (January 20) the bloc will hold its ground on Greenland and stressed the tariffs threatened by U.S. President Donald Trump on goods from European countries would undermine the prosperity of both the EU and the U.S.
Trump vowed on Saturday (January 17) to implement a wave of increasing tariffs from February 1 on several European allies, including France, until the U.S. is allowed to acquire Greenland, a step major EU states decried as blackmail.
Addressing the European Parliament, Kallas said Greenland's geostrategic importance has increased recently, stressing the NATO alliance was well suited to deal with the security of the island.
