Now, we have more than 1200 young men being in search, who have turned 27 and are not returning to Armenia: as they have no alternative: If they return to Armenia, they will be convicted. The RA NA deputy Hayk Sargsyan announced, presenting the draft law on Making Addenda and Amendment to the Law on Military Service and the Status of a Serviceman in the first reading at the RA NA regular sitting on January 19.
As the deputy presented the legislative initiative, the citizens aged 27 to 37 can be exempted from criminal liability by voluntarily returning to the Republic of Armenia and choosing one of the five options listed:
1. to serve for a period of 24 months,
2. to serve for a period of 12 months and pay 2.5 million drams to the state budget
3. to serve for a period of 6 months and pay 5 million drams to the state budget
4. to serve for a period of 1 month and pay 10 million drams to the state budget
5. to pay 15 million drams to the state budget instead of military service
Hayk Sargsyan answered the MPs’ questions, presenting clarifications on the proposing regulations.
The Deputy Chair of the Standing Committee on Defense and Security Armen Khachatryan presented the endorsement of the draft by the Head Committee.
As the RA Deputy Minister of Defense Arman Sargsyan presented, the Government has no objections on the adoption of the draft.
