All security-related issues within the framework of TRIPP will be handled by Armenian law enforcement agencies. This was stated by Sargis Khandanyan, Chair of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations of the National Assembly, during a parliamentary briefing, responding to journalists’ requests to comment on reports claiming that, at Azerbaijan’s demand, Armenian border guards would not be present in the TRIPP area.
Sargis Khandanyan also answered a question on whether any agreements would be reached with Russia regarding the planned road.
“The involvement of third parties in the TRIPP development company—whether private or state-owned—will be determined by mutual agreement between Armenia and the United States,” he said.
Asked why Aliyev refers to it as the “Zangezur corridor,” Khandanyan responded: “I believe this is disrespectful toward the United States, because the infrastructure being created in Armenia and the project itself have a clear name, a name with international legitimacy. I urge all our partners to use the name TRIPP.
As for the logic, as the document conveys to everyone—neighbors, distant partners, the Armenian opposition, and interested parties—it is not corridor-based at all.”
