On the 12th day of anti-government protests, Iranians took to the streets of Tehran and other major cities to express their anger over the economic crisis and the sharp devaluation of the national currency. Protesters set fire to police motorcycles, television stations, governors' offices, and photographs of Supreme Leader Khamenei, chanting "Death to the dictator!" and expressing support for Reza Pahlavi.
In response to the mass protests, authorities shut down internet and telephone service nationwide in an attempt to contain the spread of the demonstrations.
According to the human rights group HRANA, the death toll during the 12 days of protests has reached 42, including 34 civilians and 8 security forces. Approximately 2,280 arrests were recorded during this period.
