A search has been conducted at the home of Ali Karimli, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party (APFP), Azerbaijani media reports.
This was carried out within the framework of the investigation conducted by the State Security Service (SSS).
Note that the earlier search of Ali Karimli’s home is related to the criminal case involving Ramiz Mehdiyev that is being investigated by the SSS.
Recall that Ramiz Mehdiyev is currently charged under Articles 278.1 (actions aimed at seizing state power), 274 (treason), and 193-1.3.2 (legalization of property obtained by criminal means) of the Criminal Code.
On October 14 of this year, the Sabail District Court of Baku issued a decision regarding Ramiz Anvar oglu Mehdiyev in connection with the criminal case. According to the decision, the court granted the motion concerning Ramiz Mehdiyev, who has been charged with particularly serious crimes, and imposed a preventive measure of four months of house arrest.
It is particularly important to note that it is beyond doubt that after the end of Russia’s war with Ukraine, it will attempt to restore its sphere of influence over the Caucasus. For this purpose, it is not excluded that forces affiliated with Ramiz Mehdiyev may be used, and that the APFP — known for its radical behavior and for consistently opposing Azerbaijan’s state interests — may play a leading role in this process.
For the reasons mentioned, neutralizing the APFP in a timely manner is of great importance for state security.
