The declaration on cooperation between Russia and Kazakhstan noted the need to further strengthen the strategic partnership between the countries and develop integration in the Eurasian space. The document was published on November 12 on the Kremlin's website.
The document emphasizes that Moscow and Astana intend to work closely in the interests of sustainable international security, based on the principle of indivisibility — ensuring the security of some states should not be at the expense of others.
The key elements of such a system are the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-building Measures in Asia.
The declaration also states that Russia and Kazakhstan will jointly develop transport and logistics infrastructure, liberalize trade relations and deepen economic cooperation within the framework of the Greater Eurasian Partnership concept.
The parties also reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the regime of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons of 1968. The document notes the significant role of the Semipalatinsk Treaty on the Establishment of a Nuclear-weapon-free Zone as the only such initiative in the Northern Hemisphere.
In addition, Russia and Kazakhstan intend to develop financial cooperation, including expanding settlements in national currencies and improving joint payment systems. According to the text of the document, such measures are aimed at strengthening economic sovereignty and increasing the stability of bilateral trade.
