Russia is open to cooperation with the United States in Alaska, but a political decision from Washington is needed to resume economic engagement, President Vladimir Putin told an economic forum in Russia's far eastern city of Vladivostok on Friday, Reuters reports.
The U.S. has significant resource potential in Alaska, while Russia possesses effective technologies for oil and gas development, Putin said.
“Russia and the United States can work together in the Arctic. Alaska has natural resources, while Russia possesses effective technologies for gas extraction and liquefaction. In addition, Moscow has good proposals for cooperation with American companies in Alaska,” Putin said.
He also stressed that Russia has never turned away from international economic cooperation and does not create obstacles for anyone.
“A political decision is needed for Russia and the United States to restore economic cooperation,” Putin noted.
