A thick orange haze from the Pickett Fire in California on Saturday (August 23) engulfed the area, as firefighters battled to contain it, Reuters reports.
In an update posted at 12:21 p.m. (1621 GMT) on Sunday, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) said the blaze in the popular wine region of Napa County had grown to over 6,803 acres, of which 11% was contained.
Cal Fire said progress was being made in containing the wildfire, with both air and ground firefighting equipment being deployed to tackle it at all hours. Evacuation orders were in place, with the agency warning the blaze posed an "immediate threat to life".
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, local media reported.
