A powerful explosion was seen in Gaza on Friday (August 22), visible from Israeli territory near the border. The blast, which echoed across the area, was the latest in a series of strikes amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, Reuters reports.
The war began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas-led gunmen attacked southern Israeli communities, killing about 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and taking 251 hostages, including children, into Gaza, according to Israeli figures.
Israel’s military offensive in the Gaza Strip has since killed at least 60,000 Palestinians, according to the enclave’s health ministry.
